About Us

Etoko Women Association was created in the year 2001 as A SELF HELP GROUP of 20 Women who hail from Etoko Village in Mamfe Manyu Division of South West Region in the Republic of Cameroon West Africa, but Resident in Kumba, Meme Division of South West Region in the Republic of Cameroon. The Initiative was taken to be together as Sisters from the same village and assist each and every one in Joy and in Sorrow and to work as a Team for the welfare of our Families. We also thought of Providing Educational Care for our Children , Nutrition for our Families and the possibility of giving Health Care to both ourselves and Families. After considering all these we agreed on contributing a token amount of 500 francs each during every sitting for the treasurer to keep in the Group’s account and to withdraw when the need arose. This continued as time went on. The Group is based at Kosala 1 and Utoko Quarter Communities in Kumba II Sub Division in Meme Division in the Republic of Cameroon. Our Meetings are held after every two weeks that is (fortnightly) in the Premises of a Member in the Community.

As we continued holding meetings and contributing small amounts of money to keep the group growing, we had another idea of owning a Group Farm and so agreed to rent a piece of land in the outskirts of the Community to produce food stuff in order to feed our families in particular and sell a quarter to the Inhabitants of the Community as a whole. The Rented Piece of Land was at the time, a Demonstration Farm for all the Members supervised by Agric Officers who were invited to demonstrate on how to work together. As we worked on the rented piece of land, we expanded and each member tried to rent her own small quota. While in Individual farms the knowledge acquired from Agric Officials in a Group Farm was put into practice. This Exercise continued up to 2004 when members decided to apply to be known as an existing Group with the Government of Cameroon. An application was then written to the Administration of Kumba for legalization. Fortunately, on the 2nd of October 2004, we were recognised as a charity group and issued with an Acknowledgement Receipt.

Etoko Women are also a Registered Group with Meme Association of Orphanages and Homes (MAOH) which was created in July 2010 while they became a registered member Group in December 2010. In the Group, members of different Orphanages and those who’s Orphans are in various Homes in the Communities like those of Etoko women; come together to share ideas on how each Group is managing with the children and to look for means and ways to improve on the support. Each Member Group contributes 1000 FRS CFA every month that is 12 000 FRS yearly as sinking fund which is used for the running of the Group. We celebrate the Day of the African Child on the 16th of June yearly and End of year Party on the 28th of December yearly with all the Orphans, Carers and members of the Various Registered Groups. The President is called Madam Mah Daina Tel:(00237) 75490796 while the Coordinator
is Madam Ngatchu Rose, Tel:(00237) 77857262. The Meeting is held on every 1st Tuesday of the month in one of the Offices in Social Affairs, Kumba Meme Division.

During the two occasions as mentioned above, the children say rhymes, memory verses, Bible Quiz, Traditional Dances and Singing. The Priests of one of the Catholic Churches, The Pastors of one of the Presbyterian Churches, the Imam of Moslem Faith, Special Guests and Delegate of Social Affairs are often invited to take part in the Ceremonies by delivering Spiritual Talks and Various Presentations. The Presentations are often centered on the welfare of the children and advises to carers and members of the Groups who move up and down to see that things work well as expected.
